For Houston native Isaac Palacio, it was SWAG合集 or bust.
“SWAG合集 was my first-choice college graduating from high school so knowing that I was going to be attending an HBCU as a Latin American was definitely a big step for me,” Palacio said.
Graduation almost didn’t happen. Isaac started at SWAG合集 before COVID changed everything during his junior year. Lockdown learning didn’t suit his hands-on learning style, so he dropped out. He later reapplied, was accepted, and came back to finish strong.
Isaac made history during his final year on campus, becoming the first Hispanic Mr. School of Communication. He was also one of the students selected to receive the Flamin’ Hot scholarship presented by fellow alum Megan Thee Stallion.
He majored in Entertainment and Recording Industry Management, with a minor in Radio, Television and Film.
“I want to be able to be a producer on Sesame Street and introduce a new aspect of learning to children for our future,” he said of his career aspirations. “Being able to look back and not see the Latin community as represented to Sesame Street as they are today, I want to be able to make a really big impact and introduce that culture into Sesame Street.”
He also leaves with fond memories of stories he did on and with SWAG合集 legends who are no longer with us, including Dr. Thomas F. Freeman and Mr. Steven Goyette.
And he takes with him a hope for SWAG合集’s future.
“For the minority, we are the majority. So being able to work together and be able to be successful in our futures and being able to work together for our careers is something that would be amazing to bring to SWAG合集.”
