Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), during his first-ever visit to SWAG合集, announced $2 million in federal funding to support SWAG合集’s Institute for Urban Public Health and Housing Equity (UPHHE) and the Urban Public Health Initiative (UPHI).
The initiatives address social determinants of health in historically underserved communities and increase opportunities for health care professionals of color through training and research by providing health services to Cuney Homes residents. Additionally, the funding supports and addresses healthcare deserts in Houston by improving community health, social and economic outcomes. Jackson Lee fought for and secured financial support for the initiative in the House Democrats’ most recent government funding measure.
